Pentecost. The Feast of Weeks
Meaning of the Word 'Pentecost'
Pentecost means "fiftieth". Pentecost is the Greek name for the Feast of Weeks. This festival was a one-day festival, and the day to be kept was calculated by counting 7 weeks and a day from the Sabbath during the Feast of Unleavened Bread.
Lev 23:15-16 15 "'From the day after the Sabbath, the day you brought the sheaf of the wave offering, count off seven full weeks. 16 Count off fifty days up to the day after the seventh Sabbath, and then present an offering of new grain to the LORD. (from New International Version)
The Feast of Weeks, or Firstfruits
The Feast of Weeks was the Feast of the Firstfruits.
Num 28:26 "'On the day of firstfruits, when you present to the LORD an offering of new grain during the Feast of Weeks, hold a sacred assembly and do no regular work. (from New International Version)
